Psychological Type Descriptions: ENFP
Description:
ENFPs are incredibly enthusiastic about ideas and people. Quick with new ideas, ENFPs are often a major asset in brainstorming ways of facing a problem. They tend to be willing to try any new experience before deciding whether it is worth repeating. Described by others as outgoing, fun, warm, and optimistic, ENFPs often easily form new relationships with diverse people. This is one of the types that most needs to work in teams or groups. Luckily, ENFPs tend to be excellent in bringing together conflicting parties and helping them find points of common ground. ENFPs value emotional experiences-actively seeking the deepest level of their own feelings and striving for congruence in their actions. Seeking understanding, ENFPs are unlikely to be judgmental of others until they believe they have completely understood the perspective of the other. The 3-5% of the population who are ENFP usually are surrounded by many friends and they value these relationships more than any other type.
Potential Blindspots:
As with any type, ENFPs can encounter problems in certain areas. Their tremendous strength in innovation is coupled with often significant problems with procrastination, planning, and follow through. ENFPs are easily distracted from their task by new ideas or experiences. ENFPs tend to hate bureaucracy and will often bring their substantial interpersonal skills to bear against paperwork and other mundane tasks. With a global perspective on facts, ENFPs may overlook details and settle for "close enough" to the distress of more particular types. ENFPs are also so strongly drawn to working in teams that they may become uncomfortable and even inefficient when required to work alone. Finally, with their pull to try new experiences, ENFPs may tend to say "yes" too much and become overextended and unable to finish projects they have initiated.
