Psychological Type Descriptions: ESFP
Description:
ESFPs are the natural entertainers of the world. They are witty, playful, and vivacious. People of this type are often literally the life of the party-livening up a room just by walking in to it. ESFPs tend to be viewed by others as funny, caring, and warm. ESFPs often enjoy helping people, although they prefer that their help be concrete and immediate. ESFPs are quite flexible and tolerant in their dealings with both themselves and others. They also often show strong common sense and can quickly grasp what is going on in social situations. This ability allows ESFPs to show great strength in bringing together conflicting parties. ESFPs tend to be swayed by their own immediate emotional experience, rather than by theories. In a relaxed and friendly environment, most ESFPs can thrive; however, rigid and hostile environments may make the ESFP particularly uncomfortable and unhappy. One of the most important needs for many ESFPs is the need for novelty. They almost always welcome the opportunity to encounter new experiences and new people. ESFPs account for roughly 10-13% of the population.
Potential Blindspots:
As with any type, ESFPs can encounter problems in certain areas. One of the most significant problems for ESFPs is boredom. Uninteresting but important tasks may be pushed to the back burner so often that they are forgotten. Planning ahead is also not a strength for most ESFPs. Instead, they may allow themselves to move from one experience to the next without keeping a contingency plan in mind for when things become unpleasant. When ESFPs make decisions, they are likely to listen only to their personal feelings and ignore logical consequences.
